LS7 Engine Differences
Hey Guys. I am curious what the main differences are between the LS1/LS6 and the LS7 engine? Are the parts interchangeable? What are the main differences? What easy add-ons would be best for a crate LS7 engine? Please advise.

There's so much to tell that it would be easier for you to read through the forums. For a start, ls1/6 are 5.7l whereas the ls7 is a 7.0l. You'll be busy for days

lets try this again.
Ls1/ls6 is a wet sump 5.7 ltr alum. block
Ls7 is a dry sump 7.0 alum. block
Parts are not interchangeable. one has a 90mm intake and TB... the other doesnt. They are totally different engines.
Go to autozone and buy "How to build high horsepower LS1's" by Will Hanzel or whatever.... start reading, you have alot to learn daniel-son!
Same "add ons" you put in a LS1.... heads, cam, headers, tune, blah blah blah.
The 7.0 or 427 is potent in crate form... no need to do much to it.

Hi. Alright, besides buying a book, what else can everyone tell me? I will be buying an LS7 crate engine from GM and would like the best performance out of it, but still want to keep it VERY streetable. What does everyone suggest?
None of the parts like intake manifolds or anything are interchangeable from the LS1/LS6 and LS7, huh?

If you're going to keep the dry sump setup, you'll be spending around $1400 for the oil tank and lines unless you go to aftermarket stuff in which case, you'll still be out quite a bit if you buy good stuff.
On the other hand, if you're going to convert it to a wet sump, you'll be spending at least that amount to change ($$$!!!) (or modify) the crank and buy the correct oil pan, oil pump, timing cover, timing set, etc. Then you'll have to drill the block for the dipstick.
If you have any money left after this, the Katech LS7 cam, the LPE GT13 (or a cam from some others sponsors with LS7 experience) and a good set of springs/retainers will be about all you will need.
Did I mention that although 1 7/8" round tube headers will bolt up, the exhaust ports are designed to be mated to a D-port header flange (as in the stock exhaust and LS7/Z06 aftermarket headers).

58 tooth Crank trigger
This is the main issue 58 tooth new design
older computer will not work must be an 05 or newer computer that had a 58 tooth ls2 engine in it .
Big stuff 3 and a few others offer aftermarket engine management systems for the LS7 .
Many of our vendors do this conversion
I would spend time in research before spending any money .

What kind of car is it going into and what computer are you using?
For mods, you can do anything a fellow with a 06 Z06 does. Headers, cam, and tuning are the big ones right now. Tuning depends on what computer you'll be using. The heads and intake are pretty good already; not too many options out there for those.
Good news is that headers, tuning, and cam can yield big gains. Maybe 100+ HP.

What cam would everyone suggest? I want it to be as streetable as possible, it will be a daily driver... but looking for the best horsepower increase. What about the springs, lifters, and retainers?
Also, what were you saying about the engine management upgrades?

For cam I suggest going with a known good custom cam supplier rather than trying to select one yourself.
