Now, I do not know if 10-15 hp is really worth $300-$500! Running the stock MAF (78mm) with a 90mm FAST intake/TB seems okay, but does changing it to a full 90mm set-up matter that much? Since it will measure more air coming in, does this small mod require additional tuning? Weigh in with experience or facts please! (BTW, car does not utilize forced induction!)

It's not worth it until it becomes a restriction, which it isn't until 450-500rwhp N/A.
Swapping out to an 85mm GM unit (descreened truck, 'vette, or z06) can be done but you do need to have some tuning work. The computer has a MAF table that it uses to translate the MAF's signal into airflow. You can get a z06 MAF $130 or so from SDPC, then have LG throw the new table in for it. You'll need some couplers and stuff to put it together with though.
I'd be interested in seeing how much you pick up from it, it would be helpful for other members in the future.

No need to mess with the stocker. Some have but most don't. The stock flows just fine and you don't have to worry about any tuning issues. I've ran a 90/90 setup with the stocker and there wasn't an issue.

If you run a Z06 or Truck MAF without calibration, you ARE going to need to tune it to run properly.

Hears what happened to my motor with a descreened mass air. Get one with a screen and put it on.

Only thing I can imagine is you removed the screen, then placed it inside one of the cylinders, along with 1/4 stick of dynamite.

PLAYTOY were you even using an airfilter? the screen is there to straighten airflow, its not a secondary airfilter
