Default Rattling on Acceleration

This is driving me insane and I cannot get this figured out. Whenever I accelerate I get this rattling sound from under the car. It doesn't stay consistent with the engine RPMS so I know its not in the motor. I haven't changed anything under there and I have checked all the heat shields and they are tight. My question is can a clutch rattle around if it is worn out. I know my stock clutch is dying hard and I am thinking it may be slipping and it is causing the rattle. It only rattles for a few seconds and then stops or it will stop immediatly after taking foot off the gas. Anyone have a clue what this could be.

I had a wierd rattle upon acceleration in the past - like you said, it drive me nuts. Turned out be to a few small exhaust leaks around my cats.

I had them sealed up & the car is quite again.

Sounds like an O2 sensor is loose, I had the same problem. Go under the car and tighten them.

Are you sure it's not spark knock?

What does spark knock sound like? It is a fast paced rattle coming from under the car. I heard about the O2's causing this problem. Also the y-pipe is welded so it can't be that. I will check all the heat shields again and see what I can find out. The rattling seems to be the most appartent near the passengers side sail panel when you sit on the inside?

Well you said it makes the noise when you get on it, which is when spark knock occurs. It can also occur throughout the RPM range (some rattle at the very top, some when you first get on it, etc) and stops when you take your foot off the gas.

The noise can be elusive and a lot of people think it is their cats gone bad. It basically sounds like shaking a can of small rocks.

Maybe you can find a friend with EFIlive who can scan it for you, that would show knock. In the meantime you can make sure that you are using the appropriate octane fuel and also see that a lot of oil is not being sucked into the intake, as that is a culprit in these cars also.

You sure it couldn't just be something in the interior. We all know are cars get the squeeks and rattles as they get older.

It can't be spark knock. If I stomp on it and go WOT throttle it doesn't rattle or ping in the high RPMS mostly is only does it in the low RPMS. It is not pulling any oil as I have no PCV. Also I have never run anything below 93 octane and I put octane booster in it recently and it made no difference. I am going to check the O2 sensors to see if they maybe causing the problem. I checked as much of the interior as I could and removed the spare tire and jack so that isn't it. I swear it sometimes sounds like it is in the trunk or in the passenger side sail panel. I'm thinking if it was spark knock wouldn't it get much worse as the RPM's rise?

I`d go with the Y-pipe, kinda like a machine gun rattle at first popping and lessens as you get higher through the RPMs

It might be the cats. A piece inside could be broken off and rattles during acceleration. I think I have the same problem actually.

I have Pacesetter's ORY which will become a TSP catted Y here shortly. So that means no Cats. I have heard of the Hooker muffler having peices break up in it and cause rattles maybe that is it? Im thinking it is isolated to the Y because the pacesetter y sucks and has sucked since I installed the freaking thing. Guess no choice but to run open headers now huh If i hear it then something is fucked up.

i experienced a similar thing after seafoaming my car so unless its exaust or a heat shield and sounds like its coming from under the car i agree that it could be spark knock which is would mean some settings are off probably from the 02

i had the same problem with my car....it turns out my cats were bad and little pieces were comming out of my exhuast. i just ran the car after i found chunks of it after i sat in my driveway and reved it up. I drove the car for about 2 more days and then it stopped. i now have kooks long tube headers, cats and y pipe so that kinda fixed it

I have a sound coming from the front of my car. I thought it was the front O2 sensor on the passenger side. I just found out what it was a few hours ago. Ends up one of the screws had come out of the headlight cover on the passenger's side. The thing was rattling against the metal part of the headlight. It was driving me insane so I decided to pop the hood and look. Stupid ******* headlight, now I have to find a screw for it. Seeing as how you have the popup headlights too it could be something to consider.

I will check that headlight cover now that you mention it I have heard of this before and it would only rattle at weird random times to. I think the passengers side is loose to come to think of it. I will report back shortly.
