Default new pcm on older car?

I hear the the 97-98 PCM's aren't as good as the newer 99+. I want a 98 car because the fuel tank is easier to mod. Would it make sence to get a newer PCM in the car. I am going to be running a blower with a lot of boost so I figure the newer PCM would be a good idea. I planned on tunning it with EFI live and was wondering would their be any issues with a different year PCM in the car and also would the newer PCM (01) snap right in or are the harness different?

It would make sense to replace the PCM if possible though right? Would their be any problems tunning it? I am sure a different PCM would tell the tuning device it is a different car/different vin number.

not necessarily...Unless your planning on running 20+psi of boost HPTuners offers a 2 bar custom OS for 98 pcm's meaning you could tune pretty well up through 15psi in SD.

No real-time tuning for pre-99's w/ HPT, but I heard re-pinning the packs and re-wiring the dash is a huge PITA.
