Houston Body Shop Estimate?
This is a 2004 Mazda RX8 (not my car) and the owner is having "issues" with the other person's insurance company.
Anyone want to give a quick estimate on what it would cost to fix this?
Thanks.

most shops are going to have to work from the estimate given by the insurance company. If the numbers are coming up short the shop will need a suppliment.
What types of problems is he having? What insurance company?

The rear door looks repairable but I would replace the quarter panel. All body lines are damaged, would be tons of filler/bondo to get perfect. Prices vary especially if they could find a LKQ quarter or something. To replace the quarter with OEM part and repair the rear door, and possibly blend the front door to match I would guess a little over $2000.

Don't know the insurance company, but they want to have "their" body shop do an estimate on it...I always get shivers when an insurance company says that.
I think the car needs to be take to 2 or three "good" places to counter "their" shop's estimate (I don't think "their" shop has estimated it yet).

Ok - here's what "their" shop and the insurance company said:
$1,500 or less, but let our shop fix it - we can fix that rear panel and we don't need to replace that whole panel (that rear piece is all one like on the F-body)
My translation - 3 quarts of bondo and it'll look great.
Any thoughts??

insurance companies can not tell you where to have the vehicle repaired. state law says you can go anywhere you want. However you go to your joe schmo shop and get a shitty repair insurance wont pay to have it redone correctly.

as stated above:
Texas Law allows you to take it to the shop of your choice. (and you do not have to get 3 estimates.
Wherever you take the car usually the insurance company will come out and do an estimate. The shop works to that estimate, but if more damage is found the shop needs to get a suppliment for repairs. I can also bet that the insurance company is only paying for aftermarket or used parts. If you want OEM parts you may pay the difference to the shop.
Take it somewhere you feel comfortable. If they have Progressive insurance I feel sorry for you
Our shop no longer takes in jobs that have Progressive.

Could you PM me your shop's number?
I've been talking with the car owner, and the insurance company said that they are only giving $1081 for the repair, and that they don't think the panel needs to be replaced. If you're open this weekend, the owner just might bring it by - not sure though. I think she'll call, but I'm not sure about that either.
Everyone that posted, thanks for the input!! It's been helpful.
