Default Wideband Commander not talking to laptop?

Anyone have this problem? Wideband Commander gauge is working fine, but when I try to connect up the laptop the software doesn't recognize the wideband. The software doesn't offer the Device menu options for "device setup"... only option not grayed out is the "analog display setup".

The laptop recognized the new device, and device manager says the device is working correctly.

Any help is appreciated.

Default

Just to follow up on this, if anyone ever has the same problem:

Start Win XP in safe mode with networking and they'll talk just fine. Not sure which background app was the problem.
