Does my engine have rod bolt ferrules?
Hey guys, I really need an answer right now because I've got my car apart. My car has an early '00 LS1 and I just took out a couple of the rod bolts to replace with Katechs, but I cannot seem to find the ferrules. I have looked really closely, but nothing is there. My bolts look identical to the ones in post #6 of this thread: https://ls1tech.com/forums/showthrea...light=ferrules
So, does my car have ferrules or not?

If its an early 00 model its more than likely it doesn't have them. If you could easily pull the bolts out of the rods once they were loose then you don't have them. If you had to unscrew the bolts out of the rods even after they were loose then you probably do have them.

My wife's car is an early '00 model as well (we bought the car in Dec. 99) and she DID have the ferrels. The ferrels did not easily come out with all of the bolts. I had to play with some of the bolts to get the ferrels out too.

It would be nice to know the answer to this question before i get into this swap since i am in the same boat as well (early 2000 built in June of 1999 if memory serves me correctly). Mine has the older casting heads if that makes a difference, which heads did your 2000's have.

Well, I just did a rod bolt swap on a '98 car over the weekend and that ls1 had the exact same rod bolts I had in my car. It had no ferrules in the bore, so I just installed the rod bolts per the ARP specs and called it a day.
