Default How do you take a balancer off if engine is out of car?

Say you have an engine sittin out of the car WITHOUT the tranny bolted to it. How do you take the harmonic balancer off the engine? Obviously when you try to take balancer bolt out the whole crankshaft and everything will turn. How in the hell do you keep everything from turning? Sorry guys im kinda new to this stuff. thanks.

x2 for the impact gun. Leave the spark plugs in to make it a little easier.

u could put some rope (3/8's) in thru the spark plug hole so it will lock it while trying to pry bolt.

Impact wrench will pull it right off with the right jaw puller. I used a big *** 2 jaw puller with some biug hooks on the jaws.

I suppose that would work too. A pry bar in the flywheel and leaned on the bellhousing dowel works fine too to lock the engine.
