What's it like to drive a 2000 - 2002 Camaro SS 6spd?
I would like to purchase a 2000 - 2002 Camaro SS with a 6spd in the near future.
I have never driven an LS1 powered Camaro before and I have no real bearing as to what these cars feel like.
I had a 96' LT1 6 speed Corvette before and I was wondering how a 2000 - 2002 Camaro SS 6 speed would compare in feel and responsiveness?
Does the LS1 have different characteristics compared to the LT1?
How do the torque and HP bands differ between these two engines?
Would a stock 2000 - 2002 SS be faster than the 96' LT1 6 speed Vette?
Thanks to all,
Zak

damn now i think about it i get more comments from guys in work trucks yelling "GET ON THAT!"
I dont think it will be an lt1 vs ls1 thread. Stock for stock the ls1 is a faster car, end of that discussion.

The LT4 Corvettes run comparable times to an LS1, on average. There won't be a whole lot of difference in overall power and acceleration.

I had a convertible which came with the LT1.

One thing I've noticed about my LS1/M6 is that if I reach a certain point with the loud pedal the car will actually grab my foot, pull it to the floor and make me keep it there until I've run through at least 3 gears. It is evil and posessed... I love it even as I sit and type with cut hands/bloody knuckles while the car is in the garage in the middle of a cam swap/nitrous install.
Seriously I've known a few LS1 owners who are addicted to the way the LS1 just pulls harder and harder the higher the tach needle climbs... Each gear feels as good as the first. Tee Hee

I think under normal driving conditions the LT1 feels like an animal compared to the LS1. With almost no throttle it seems like the Lt1 takes absolutely no effort to reach 60. LOL now if you get into the pedal a little and as soon as you reach 3k in the LS1 you can defiantly feel the top end charge of the LS1. In this area the LS1 will crush the LT1 and the numbers show in HP and Et's. Honestly I can’t make the LT M6 comparison to the LS1 M6 comparison but if both cars were completely stock I would say the LT1 is a little more fun to drive due to its low RPM torque. If you want better Et's and a faster car the LS1 is hard to beat.
