5.3 Heads on a 5.7
What do I need to do????
The story behind this is that I have a 02 GMC truck 5.3 with a low RPM knock caused by nitrous and me being stupid. The motor is coming out AGAIN in the future. I would like to make it into a 5.7. The heads have already had some work done to them and I already have a cam. If I buy a 5.7 block and internals what will I have to do to bolt my top end of my 5.3 to it???

Make sure you open up the chambers, the stock 5.3 chamber is around 58cc, we have a CNC program that opens it up to 63cc which yeilds 10.8:1 on 5.7, it also benefits the flow to open it up to 3.9" bore around the valves. If you need the chamber bigger we can do that also. Other then that I believe thats all you would have to do.

Check some of the other threads here on LS1Tech, and I think you'll find that TEA has done a lot of 5.3 heads and has them down pat. I run a set of the 'Stage II' on my 99 vette, and I couldn't be happier. After TEA did their work, the heads bolted right up, and you wouldn't be able to tell them apart from a 5.7 head just by looking at the engine.
Good luck! <img border="0" alt="[cheers]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_cheers.gif" />

The heads has already been ported/polished, bigger valves, stiffer springs, etc etc. All I need is the heads modified to bolt onto the 5.7 block..

Re: 5.3 Heads on a 5.7
My heads has had some work done to them.. I do have 2.02 1.57 valves and alot of other work done to them. The compression was not changed so there is room for that..

If I send you the bare heads what would you suggest to do to them? They are already ported and have bigger valves. The heads will go onto a 5.7 with a bigger cam. The computer will be tuned once the motor is running.. What would you suggest as far as compression??

John...what happened?
If you need some specifics on doing the 5.3 to 5.7 spec motor let me know...Mark @ AAP is swaping a 5.3 into a s-10 but using all OE 5.7 components.
