For the most part a 4l70e is just a 4l60e/65e with the addition of and input speed sensor from looking inside no significant durability improvement

Anyone thought about trying to retrofit an Allison tranny in an F-Body from the HD trucks? Just a thought....

Allison might just be a lil heavy and a lil big for an f-body....
I have a 4l70 in my tbss and it held up for about a year. It was slippin going into od every so often so out it came and it went to FLT. I dont believe the 4l70 is any stronger then 60/65e....But thats only my opinion

a regular 1/2 ton truck needs a 2" body lift just to fit an ally trans... I can only imagine the surgery needed to fit one in an F-bod.

Well just an idea since the Allison can handle quite a bit of power.

I personaly question the strength at the new Pick up point on the input shaft. We KNOW 4L60s never break input shafts

My 2006 Trailblazer SS has the 4L70E and this is what a stock LS2 did to it:

Most of the guys on the forum went with built trannies and if your going to spend the money on one why not make it a 4L80E!

Here a look at the thread for the whole story:

I personally believe that the input drum came apart, locked up and spit it through the case. I saw this happen on a 350 and the direct drum was totally gone. Just my observation. Vince

That is why I insist on a shield/blanket I agree on the input drum.

BTW at what level are you guys seeing broken shafts?

Good eye Vince!! Thats what the dealership thought happened too. I think this is the extreme of what could happen with stock trans.

We normally see it in truck applications due to the weight and torque of the vehicles. It does happen from time to time in a car that runs slicks with wheels up launches. It does not happen often but does happen. We are looking to do this to make these units stronger of course. Vince
