Default off topic....Pontiac Solstice

I have a friend interested in 1 of these....a turbo-automatic Solstice roadster. Anyone driven one of these cars that can comment? Are they a good little sports car for a woman? She's not a racer...Anyone in the know? She also likes the Honda S2000's, but they only come w/stick transmission...Thanks. WJ

my fiance's uncle has one seems nice but to me the saturn is much better styling. if she doesn't care about racing I wouldn't bother with the turbo model and save the coin

the saturn redline and solstice GXP are both currently available but rolling into show rooms very slowly. best bet would be to talk to a dealership about ordering and wait the 6-8 weeks until it arrives.
the cars are a blast to drive, even the non-turbo model gets along good. they handle like they are on rails and with teh traction control off you can easily use that power in the lightweight car to get the rear end rotating. they do very good bunrouts and donuts.
i took one for a "test" drive one day from a dealership that shall remain nameless. it was a blast.

Thumbs up

The automatic turbo version is actually supposed to be slightly quicker from a dig than the manual turbo version.

My girlfriend's Mother has the Saturn Sky and it's been back to the dealer a few times already for a couple things... mostly the shittyness of it being a convertible.... Other than the reapeated times back to the dealer she seems to enjoy the car a lot! I don't know if the same issues carry over to the Solstice?

The Solstice looks a lot better in person than it does in pictures that's for sure! The Sky has it's unique body style and interior differences, but I'd go with the Pontiac simply because it's a Pontiac!

Turbo's are fun... I'd go that route without a second thought!

We have both the regular Solstice, and GXP on the lot. I think they are decent for the money, but the regular one is underpowered in auto form. Def not your primary vehicle, space for stuff is VERY limited.

Thanks everyone. It's going to be a summer-only car for her. She's supposed to test drive a blk. turbo automatic Pontiac roadster today, but likes the dark blue ones...she still likes the Honda S2000 quality over the Pontiac, but doesn't want to shift it...we'll see.... WJ

I haven't had the chance to drive one but the GXP or the RL sound like great little roadsters. Nice interiors, nice size (good amount of room sitting in it, atleast compared to the s2k) and the potential of that turbo ecotec is huuuuuuuge.

I'd love to have an all blacked out Sky RL....sigh money

This doesn't surprise me, many other uninformed and unknowlegeable car buyers in this country also tend to lean towards Honda for no apparent valid reason as well.
I would take a Solstice/Sky turbo over an S2000 any/every day of the week.

Tell you what, I've bought/ordered over 30 new cars/trucks since I was 16, and can say I've researched EVERY purchase thoroughly, so don't refer to me or my friend as uninformed and unknowledgeable. Park a Honda S2000 alongside a Pontiac Solstice or Saturn Sky...sorry, but the S2000 is up on quality....and the Vtech motor speaks for itself. Only drawback is a manual shifter only for the Honda. We've done this to ourselves (US automakers). Both Honda roadster and Solstice are priced pretty equally w/similar options. I've always been a US car guy, but it's now becoming ugly for quality comparisons between the Japanese, German, and our US cars.....we're often finishing behind them both regarding reliability and quality.
