but how much power do lt4 heads actually add? do they just bolt right up to an lt1?

they will bolt right to a lt1 block, but the money is MUCH better spent on ported stock heads....if you ahve a stock cam you might see 5 hp or so...with an eftermarket cam maybe 15-25, if you get your stockers fully done maybe 50-70 with supporting bolt ons

i agree with stock ported heads but a lt4 head is better for porting id port the stock lt1s with better results than a unported lt4.

Leave the LT4s for BIG cube motors even then I think they are overrated.

agreed....from what I have read the LT4 stuff (intake and heads) seem to only be marginal upgrades if at all. I have also read alot of good results comming form stock ported heads and intakes.
