Best Stroker Crank for big Cubes
Ok, im starting to do some hardcore research to build the engine for my GT, and i was going to go with the L92 block, but at 1300 bucks for the bare block it seems id be better off just getting the LSx block from the start and wont have to worry about the block becoming a weak link down the road.
Im really wanting to build a 492 cube engine, and have run some numbers and came up with a 4.268 bore with a 4.300 stroke to get me the magical 492.1 cubes.
What crank choices are available besides the callies Magnum XL, that are availble with the 4.300 stroke?
What kind of power can the magnum XL hold up to? Any ideas?
Im looking at running either fully ported L92 or LS7 heads and probably going to end up running a sheetmetal intake with atleast a single turbo, most likely a twin setup running 15-20#'s of boost.
Im guessing a setup like this will make 1000HP pretty easy once the tune is dialed in.
Any thoughts on this combo from some of the others here?

The reason I ask is that you can bore a LSX block out that far. 4.250 is the maximum bore reccommended(sp?) by gm for the LSX. With 15-20 psi you will not need 492 CI to reach 1000 hp. If it were me, I would bore the block to 4.150 and run a 4.125 stroke crank with a set of 6-bolt ET or All-Pro heads. These will allow to turn the wick up as high as you want to, and providing you have enough turbo, make as much power as you want, within reason.
One more thing, my favorite quote inserted here "You better have a liquid cooled checkbook"
Good luck and happy spending!!

1) 4.3" crank= oil burner
2) All you need is a 370 to make 1000hp on boost.
4) to feed a 492 you would need a HUGE turbo
3) good luck keeping l92 heads attached a 15-20psi boost
4) no need for sheetmetal intake
5) No use for LSX block unless your going o use big $$$ 6 bolt heads since Allpro/Warhawk/ET are the only one who make them
6) You better have a Liquid Cooled Check book....lol
The cost to build a 1000+hp car in 2-3 times as much as you expect the fuel system and electronics alone will run 5k... No stock parts will hold that power.

1,000 hp anymore isn't ****, you can do it with any of the aluminum LSx blocks, any intake and any heads. And any forged rotating assembly.

OK, well im not concerned with making the 1000HP, it was more of wanting a 492 cube mill to go into my 92 Sonoma GT that is truck 492 of 806 built in 92 only.
I know that any engine can be made to crank out a 1000HP on boost with out any issues these days, i was just bascially saying that i could make that much power really easy.
But i also want realibility as i plan to put some miles on this setup, so i guess with that said ill probably stick with a 433 or a 454 cube motor.
