Default Idle Problem

I just removed my AIR & EGR, but most importantly, installed a ported TB on my 99Z. It took me about two hours to do everything. I started my car and no SES light came on! However, now my idle won't come down past 1,400 RPM and when I rev it, it seems like it takes longer to come down. The TB is from another 99Z. I let the car run for about 20 mins so it definitely hit normal operating temp. So the first couple questions are: Does anyone know why I'm idling high and what do I need to do to adjust it? The second question is: Why did no SES lights come on when I removed the AIR and EGR? I know that the guy who owned it before me didn't delete them because he didn't even have a lid or any type of performance part on the car. Somebody help me out here. Thanks.

It may not throw any codes on the first ignition cycle for AIR/EGR and only 20 mins, some codes need to see a couple consecutive failures before setting the MIL. Give it some ignition cycles/time. Make sure you have a good seal on the intake where the EGR pipe was.

+1 on a good seal. Sounds like a vacuum leak. Check all your lines/ports-

I have the little metal cap from I believe Speed Inc in the EGR port. Sounds like I may have to get a freeze plug. Where else may I have a vacuum leak?

I checked all the lines and put a freeze plug in the EGR port. I still have a high idle. The idle fluctuates up and down, as well. The computer isn't throwing any MAF codes. Does anyone have any ideas?

The plug from Speed Inc is a freeze plug. Did you just knock it in or did you seal it at all. I put a bit of RTV on mine and knocked it in. Likely the TB is causing your issue though. Is the blade closing all the way? Was there any light visible around the blade when it's closed before installing it.

The Speed Inc part that I got was a little metal cap, the freeze plug that I got from the parts store today is a thick rubber plug with a nut on top for expanding it. I didn't put any sealant on it, but it was very tight and I put some injector cleaner around it to see if a leak would bubble up and it was sealed. The TB was closing all the way.

Does the TB blade have a bleed hole in it larger than 5/32"? Who ported it?

A freeze plug isn't rubber.

I bought the TB used off of someone on this site. I was told that Raging Motorsports ported it. I don't believe the bleed hole was altered. When I'm driving and take it out of gear the RPMs run up to about 2100 and then slowly fall back down to about 1400 RPM. Even when I'm at about 900 RPM when driving and put it into neutral, it shoots to 2100. Something's very wrong here. Can this be caused by some sensor on the TB?

Throw your stock TB back on and see of the problem goes away. You could try cleaning the IAC valve.

The orange o-ring on the IAC could also be missing.

I just took a second look at the TBs and the ported one definitely has a larger bleed hole. I guess that this is what is causing the problem, but shouldn't that just raise the idle and not make it fluctuate? Is there any way to compensate for this?

The orange o-ring on the IAC was missing, but it only helped slightly when I put it on.

I just put the old TB back on and the car runs fine, so it was a TB issue and not a vacuum issue. Is there anything I can do to make the ported TB work?

i ported my stock TB, and the same thing happened to me!!!!!!!!!! I cant get the thing to idle down for anything, and checked for leaks, to no availe. I sprayed starting fluid around the tb to try and fluctuate idle, and couldnt get it to do anything. Today just to see what happened, i taped off that hole in the blade, and it idles down to about 1000 rpms, but still way to high. I also have no clue whats wrong with the thing.................

Could also be the throttle cable. Sometimes if you move around an older cable, it get get a little sticky.
