1st time claybar user....
i just bought a Meguiar's "Smooth Surface Clay Kit" i intend on using this weekend. anybody have any special advice before i dive into it? i know not to drop the clay, and not to use it if i do drop it...other than that, are there any tips/tricks special products you "vets" recommend besides following the instructions on the box???
i'm gonna buy a Zaino kit when i feel like it/can afford it...but until then, i just wanna make the car look good for cheap...
thanks...

just scrub the hell out of it tell you feel clean, you cant hurt it but make sure you keep it plenty moist with the detailer it comes with so it slides smooth over the surface..

yeah this kit comes with the "quick detailer" (for lube) and a small bottle of "cleaner wax." that's all i really need, right? or should i invest in some other form of wax or polish?

I use Meqs NXT Next Gen Wax and its amazing. Its really simple to use and goes on and come off easy when its ready. Just make sure you have plenty of extra microfiber towels on hand. You will need them.
Yes you do need to use a regular wax once you claybar it.

i got mine at O'Reily's. Autozone and all those other should have them too. i dunno if you asked someone or not, but they're in a box, some almost as big as a small shoebox...mine has to small claybars in a water tight box with a spray-bottle of quick cleaner, cleaner wax, and a micro fiber towel.

If you drop the claybar on the ground make sure you throw it out! I remember they are pretty expensive. The one I bought when I did my car after I bought it was about $20. So be careful not to drop it and if you do throw it out or you will scratch the paint on your car!

I used that exact kit on my car a few months back, with great results, and it was my first time using a clay bar. Cut 1/4 or a 1/3 of the bar off and use that, you don't need to use the whole thing at once. That way if you drop it ( and you probably will, I did ) I used the quick detailer to lubricate, but it would occasionally get stuck and leave a clay mark on the paint that was hard as hell to remove. So I'd probably use a car soap mixture next time to see if it works better.

as in just pouring the soap down it and then claying? or mix the soap and water into a spray bottle?

Autozone and Kragen should have it for sure.
