Default I had TWO broken Comp 918's not one

When changing springs I found that just the very top of the coil was broken on another spring! After a friend came over we started comparing my other broken spring to the one I just found. The original one broke in two places but the top break is almost completely identical...............see for your self.

Yeah they are 918's. I had a thread posted about it last week but found another one today while changing to Patriots.

how do you know if you broke a spring? can you hear it or does the engine stop running or start running like crap or what? Is this a reoccuring problem with 918's?

So has anyone hear anything new from comp? Are they going to release a bad batch # and recall or just make us all turn to a different spring?

Comp switched manufacturers from Peterson Spring (PAC Racing) in early 2006 to one of our competitors. We made the original 918.

You can get the original 918 still through us. The new part number is PAC-1218.

I would also recommend checking out our PAC-1518. It has the same loads as the 1218, but has extra processing like nitriding to add to its fatigue life and lift capability. It's a very nice spring.

We also have a dual too. PAC-1221.

Didn't the original 918's go through a series of breakages also?

I honestly don't know. I wasn't around then, but from the batch numbers that I've seen from the recently failures. None have been our springs.

Yes, back in 2002 or so there were a lot of reported breakages. Comp released teh blue stripe 918's, and for the most part they were a good spring until fairly recently when reports of breakages started popping up regularly again. I had heard rumors that they switched their manufacturer to this thread reinforces that...
