Default too much slack in steering wheel!!!!

i bought an 01' WS6 awhile back and have had some handling issues with it... it's real bad for "wandering" all over the road, i've been told it's because i have 275/40/17's on the front... but my main concern is the steering wheel, it has alot of slack in it... the car is not tight at all and feels alot different than my friend's 02' WS6.. can this be fixed? and what is causing this? it's was like that when i bought it.. i just put brand new hankook 275's on it and it did nothing for it... help a newbie out! thanks

how does the power rack look? first check your power streering fluid, and see if you have a leaky rack

i just turned over 70k miles on the car... i had it looked at the other day and the guy told me that my rack and pinion was worn and that there was nothing wrong with the steering box... they quoted for parts and labor that it was gonna be about $530.00 to replace the rack and pinion.. do i have to replace the whole thing, or is there a possibilty i only have to replace something minor in the stock rack and pinion???? they didn't say anything about it at the shop....

It probably isn't your steering box, since our cars don't have them.

I don't know what a rack costs, but that seems like a lot. Take it to a couple places and see if they all think the rack is worn out, and get quotes if you can't do the work yourself.
