Z06 or coupe w/ mods and large budget
Alright trying to decide what I should get. I want a vette just for the track. I was thinking about getting a z06 but no one will honor my employee pricing. So basically I could get a couple for 30-40k cheaper.
Would it be smarter to get the couple and put the money into possibly putting in a ls7 engine. Regardless of which car I get I will want to heavily modify it, so is buying the z06 just a waste of money?
Whats the primary differences between the two cars?

Not really worried about the warranty, I doubt there will be much stock parts to warranty on it when I am done.
I edited the couple and changed it to coupe right after posting. Damn your fast..

Well I think we need to know what kind of track we're talking about here. If you are talking a road course then things change. Ironically where I feel the C5Z is not worth the money compared to an FRC or Coupe when modding, I do feel the C6Z brings enough to the table to warrant it's purchase. With the C6Z you are getting aluminum frame rails, carbon fiber body panels, 7.0L dry sump motor, huge brakes, and big rims and tires. It's a very compelling package. Plus you can easily add significant power with just headers and a cam.

Bought a 07 Coupe base model last night. Got it for $38k, they wanted $78k for the z06. That leaves a $40k budget for modding. Going with bigger brakes, forged engine, new wheels, suspension, twin turbos, yadda, yadda. Will still be way under budget and it will leave a z06 in its tracks Hopefully I made the right decision.

I say buy a Z06. Even if you make a normal C6 way faster than the Z06. It still isn't a Z06. Personally, I think the C6 Z06 looks much nicer than the base C6. Its stance is just so much wider. But, thats just my opinion.

You must have missed the part about his employee discount.

Go with the base, no option, C6 coupe for all the mods you are planning on. Only option I would consider is the Z51 handling package but if you are going to tear all of the original parts out then save the money and get the base with no options.
I am not sure if the employee discount is enough to warrant buying new, I believe you still might save more by purchasing used, plenty of them out there...
