Alive & Well @ 2007 WSOP Main Event!!!
Some of you already know but for those who don't I was not only able to survive Day 1 I prospered!
I was incredibly nervous walking into the Rio. There were TV's crews everywhere snagging anybody that was anybody to get an interview. I saw players like Phil Ivey, Phil Hellmuth, Daniel Negreanu, Men "The Master' Ngyuen, Doyle Brunson, Chip Reese, Bobby Baldwin, J.C. Tran, and many others there. I was so nervous when I got into the room I had to put my iPod in and turn the volume up pretty loud to help me concentrate.
Once I found my table I sat down and closed my eyes and tried to invision myself playing and running well. I folded the first 20 hands or so, but finally picked up a hand and was able to drag a small pot. By the time I had finished stacking my chips back up I realized I wasn't nervous anymore and got ready to play.
Overall the play was just as I had been told it would be, poor. I worked my stack up from 20k to 30kish at the dinner break. I was feeling confident and really hadn't hit any flops yet. I did win an 8k pot with I got all-in with KK on a J 7 2 flop against a short stack w/ AJ and I was able to hold off his 5 outs.
After the dinner break I went on a nice rush and in one orbit at the table picked up AA (Which of course I didn't get any action with), then KK the very next hand (Won a small pot), then flopped a set of 2's a few hands later and won another good sized pot when I raised my opponents 3k river bet to 9k and he turbo-mucked.
Long story short I was able to finish Day 1 with 52k in chips! I played very well and picked up hands when I needed to. I'm feeling very very confident going into Day 2 on Tuesday. I have a great chip position and I'm hoping that I can get put on some more soft tables to continue chipping up by winning small pots.
On a side note, a friend of mine took an absolutely brutal beat to bust out of the main event. I'm not one to tell bad beat stories, but he got knocked out when he flopped quads. With the blinds at 400/800/100 the first player to act made it 2500 to go. It folded to Ryan in the cut-off seat and he smooth called with 8d8s. The flop came Jh 8h 8c. The villian bet 3,500 and Ryan smooth called. Then turn came the 7h. Villian checked and Ryan checked behind (Assuming he had the deck absolutely crippled). The river bricked off, and the villian bet 5k, Ryan raises to 15k, the villian shoves the rest of his stack in the middle, Ryan beats him into the pot, shows his quads, only for the villian to turn over 9hTh for a straight flush. The two outer. Ouch. This game can be so sick sometimes.
Wish me luck!!!!!
