Default Running speedo off computer?

I have the cable style gauge for my speedo. Do they make a conversion for a wire plug in from the computer for my gauge or do i need a new speedo? Thanks

Search here or google for "Cable X" it converts a VSS speed signal to a mechanical cable drive for mechanical speedo's. Kinda pricey but often less than modifying the tail shaft of the transmission.

This is where the cable-x is made. They sell it for about the same price as everyone else. http://www.abbott-tach.com/products.htm

If you use the speed signal from the computer, just set the Cable-X for 4000. The computer will output 4000 pulse per mile based on what it knows about the tire height, rear gear ratio, and VSS input. Pretty slick. Not super accurate below 7-8mph, and there is a tiny bit of delay, but it works and hides nice.

If you want to save a bunch of money and have more info at the same time checkout http://www.scangauge.com I put it on my 1990 chevy 5.3 conversion and I'm really happy with it.

If he wanted to change the appearance of his dash, he would most likely just update to aftermarket electronic speedo. While that thing looks pretty slick, it really doesn't seem to be what he wants.
