Is there an actual rating from borg warner?
Anybody have any input? I'm planning a buildup which will hopefully end up around 550 hp at the crank so around 490 rwhp. Would that t56 grenade or will it take it?

It wouldn't hurt to upgrade it, I think factory specs say they have a 400-450ft/lbs range if I remember correctly. I have been through 2 t-56s and my 2nd is on it's way to Six Speed Inc. right now. I haven't cracked the 340whp range yet and have broken mine, from what I understand it's not the gears but alot of the little stuff (shift forks, keys, etc..) that can't take the power. Although, there are people who put down 500+whp and are absolutely fine and have had no problems.

cool... I would mostly be daily driving and probably take it to a left and right racetrack for some time trials every now and then.
Man you sure do get a lot of car for the money with these things.

It is really hit or miss. I was pretty hard on my car at the track and went through 3 of them before finally going built in a 2000z28 I had..
1st failure.. Broken input shaft.. (sheered it off) Sticky tires, hard 4k launch = Boom
2nd failure.. Broken tailshaft.. Trans mounted tourqe arm = Boom
3rd failure.. Broken 3rd gear.. powershift with ~400hp = Boom
4th tranny built in the 2000 and one I have now built = Massive amounts of abuse and still ticking..
Moral: If you are nice to the stock tranny it will last.. Beat on it like it is built.. BOOM
