Default Can I disconect my back brakes?

I am going to a burn out contest this weekend. When I grab second gear my car bogs it a little when I am on the brakes. And in the particular contest i have to hold the brakes so the car is just barely moving for about to two minutes. When I am in first gear the car shreds the tires off. But I want a lot of smoke quickly so I was wanting to dump it in second gear and go.

So my thoughts are to disconnect the rear calipers and tuck them up some place.. Has anyone ever done this before.

Take them off, you don't really need them anyway.

i hope this is sarcasim..

yes get a line lock... only way you can disconnect them is to remove them completely, and plug te rear brake lines properly.. which is more involved and time consuming than getting a line lock..

if you remove them and never put them back on.. you will have serious braking issues..

you cant just disconnect them.. just disconnecting them means you unplug the brake line to them.. but you still need to plug the lines correctly because thof the high pressure still in the line when you hit the brakes..

My idea was not to remove them permanently but just unhook them and maybe zip tie or tape them up for a 2 minute long burnout. Then when I pull back into the pits reconnect them.

no. if you do that, you will push the piston clear out of the calipers. than you will buying yourself some new calipers. just get a linelock.

Just dont hold the brake as hard? I entered a burnout contest that was a minute long when my LS1 was near stock and just held the brake about halfway, the car never budged. Or just get a line lock, much easier.

Do you have to hate your car to do this cause I would never even think of it unless I atleast had a line lock.

I agree, just get a linelock or hold the brakes lightly. Do not do as someone mentioned and completely remove them. I also hope that was a sarcastic remark, and if it was, next time put a smiley to denote that. It's kinda hard to tell if someone is being serious or not when reading a post. Some people might actually try to disconnect their rear brakes thinking it's ok...

Takes a lot of talent to make it through that contest I'm sure. Do your car a favor and get a line lock. Wondering how much the trophy is worth. Probably not the cost of a pair of tires I bet.

I would never do that to my baby but if you must.

Do you have stainless rear brake lines?? If not, just get a brake line clamp and install it on the flex hose going to the rear axle. It will kill pressure to the rear brakes and is easy to install and remove. make sure it's tight so pressure dosen't bleed through.

Kinda strange though, every burnout contest I've ever seen had some sort of blocks or something you drove the front tires against to hold the car still so you didn't have th use the brakes.

When i post the video up next week you will see how it works.. I just use painters tape and tape off my quarter panels, use different rims and tires off an old TA that were free.

In this contest your car has to stay in constant motion. You can not let it sit in one spot for some reason. Its hard to explain. I think a video will be best.
