S400 or T76 Q trim for 5.3 LSx motor?
I am having a hard time deciding what turbo to run on my current build and was hoping you would have some insight ill list the combo and you can give me your opinions if you wouldnt mind:
1989 notch stang
5.3 ls1 motor
9-1 compression
comp 212/218 and .522/.529 lift on 114 LSA
car is light probably around 2800 lbs
3.27 rear gear
th400 3600 converter full manual but no brake
stock manifolds into 2.5 crossover
Now my options are as follows i have a nearly brand new turbonetics T76 its a Q trim turbo with the big shaft, ball bearing and water cooled options this turbo is a .96a/r on a t4 flange
OR
A buddy of mine has just purchased one of the s400 turbos with the 1.32 a/r t6 flange etc and would let me run it and him run the t76 probably depending how the S400 would work for me , The car is a street/strip car that i would like 550 rwhp out of as is and will eventually end up with a low compression forged 370 CI motor aiming for 700+ rwhp ,is the T76 the right choice for me or would the S400 be better suited to my goals? I dont want something thats going to be supper laggy and hard to build boost with but i would also like to be able to reach my goals of 700 rwhp+ without having to swap turbos again.... any and all input is greatly apreciated-Thanks alot Neil

The S400 will be very laggy on a 5.3. However, the T76Q will probably not reach 700 rwhp through a TH400 on a 370, but it'll get close (probably 650+). You can't have both quick response on a 5.3 and 700+ rwhp on a 370 from the same turbo.

The stock S400 is a laggy sucker, so don't expect it to be friendly on the street. Just sell your current unit and go with a 76GTS or a ST series unit if you want quick spool and big power. A TH400 and a 370 is going to require a good turbo to have the best of both worlds like you want.
