Default FIPK worth it over a lid on an SS?

Cant search for it so I'm asking for probably the 100th time its been asked but is an fipk worht more power on the street over a lid, not just dyno numbers with an open hood.

How does it effect airflow, what modification to the fipk kit are needed to get air into it from the scoop? Just on an SS.

I like the Volant system looks just like the K&N but has a plastic heat shield around filter. I dunno, I don't have any proof that it actually helps or anything but I like the concept.

I got one on my car. I went from the SLP blackwing filter to the FIPK and it seemed to give a better seat of the pants feeling over the lid, but i dont have any dyno graphs on it. I went to the FIPK cuz the lid was rubbing on my hood and damaging it. I do think it does add HP over the lid tho.

I'd say no, because the air filter is not a meaningful restrictor but
air temperature enhances / detracts from performance in a big way.
The FIPK without baffling out the engine compartment air will suck
in some pretty warm stuff especially sitting; even with the baffle
piece there can be substantial "reversion" pushed by the fans.
With an SS hood properly sealed you are about as good as it gets
for air temperature (especially on hot pavement, you want the top
side air and not the frying pan air that a FTRA, SSRA, SLP CAI, !FRA
setup will provide. You south'ron boys know what I'm talking about
and hell, even Montana is looking mighty tropical this time of year.

If I were to use a cone I'd be looking for a way to duct its supply
from someplace cool. But I won't have anything to do with oiled
filters on a MAF car. Hold the cheese, on that burger.

^Agreed with JB.

I guess with a Z28, it's 6 in one hand, half dozen in the other if you're going from the stock lid and considering another lid or the FIPK. But, going from a lid to an FIPK would only be a cosmetic change (a step back in my opinion).

However, if i had an SS or a WS6, I wouldn't think about going with the FIPK.

Keep in mind, I'm one of those mad heritics that don't even like the K&N filters. I use cheap stock paper. Insane, I know.

Good info, I was thinking the same about the warm air. I'm just trying to come up with a decent solution to my 85 mm MAF to lid issue./ It butts against instead of sliding into the lid and I guess I could just use a rubber coupler but theres the chance of mis-alignment which could effect airflow?

I have a FIPK on my Z/28 w/ a functional SS hood...
What I did to get even more air was cut out a most of the bottom radiator cover and took off those stupid plastic shrouds to really bring air to it. I'm trying to devise a way of taking out the washer fluid container and cutting it down and remounting it... Do they make small aftermarket washer fluid containers? Anyone?
