Default Did I heavely downgraded on oil change dis time?

I felt kinda bad because i felt I changed my oil a little too early, and replaced it with not so good of a brand. I had German Castrol 5-30w with a ac delco oil filter and replace it with 5-30w pennzoil platinum and pure one oil filter. I had my oil in there for a little over 5k and it still looked good with no metal shavings or oil consumption at all. The question is that, if I really downgraded quite some this coming up oil change since Its hard to find German Castrol now, also did I picked the right weight on the pennzoil platinum?

well i only run mobil 1 in my engine and thats what the factory also recomends for the ls1's tooo but i guess if you cant get that oil just run another equivilent full senthetic oil, penzoil should be fine but if you want you can also run the longer oil filter if you would like!!

No not at all...Pennzoil Platinum is very good oil..infact some would argue based on used oil analysis that Pennzoil Platinum is better than Mobil 1 in certain applications.

well i cant say that mobil 1 is the best becaseu that would be an opinion but then again this has been the only oil i have been using so i do not know to much about the other oils that will work well in the ls1, but the factory recomends this oil to be used in this engine

german castrol is only in a 0w-30 weight so you might want to check into what your getting if you put castrol syntec in agian.

No pennz plat is a good oil so dont feel bad about it. I switched from Mobil 1 to good ole dino oil and will NOT go back. With the Mobil 1 I had severe piston slap that even when fully warmed up didnt go away 100%. As soon as I switched to dino oil the piston slap went 100% away.

EXACTLY!! So if you actually had "American Castrol" 5W-30 in there, you did an "upgrade" to the PennzPlat (as most on BITOG seem to think the Pennzoil stuff is THE best readily available [UNLIKE GC], "off the shelf" synthetic out there!!

i was at autozone today and i saw castrol full synthetic in 0-30 weight. however, it wasn't the german stuff. the bottle was black and the back of the bottle read just like their full synthetic 5w-30 oil did. i was going to get it but realized i guess they must make a non-german 0w-30 as well.

PP is fine oil. 5k is a safe bet for this oil.

I run 3-4k on Havoline DS dino 10w-40 summer, 10w-30 winter mix.

M1 seems to be not so good for the LS1.

from what i've been picking up, the PP is a damn fine oil. sarge from ls1.com stands behind it and i'll listen to him about oil than almost anybody else. must be great stuff...and for the price!! i know i'm swapping to it.

I've run dino Valvoline 5w30 since I bought my car and never had any problems. Pennzoil is good **** tho.
