Default Relacing Oil Pan Gasket Questions....

I am putting my engine back together and bought all new gaskets for everything. I goto put my oil pan back on and noticed that the old gasket(factory one) is a rivitted to the oil pan in two places. I was able to pop the old gasket off, but my question is..

Should I rivit my new gasket to the pan like the old?

Also what is the purpose of doing this?

Thanks,
Lee

No rivets are needed on the new one.
