Default 160 stat???

I just put in a 160 stat...however stock gauge still shows just under 210 when the car is hot like the stock one did. Is this because I had the car tunned before I installed it? I cant see why a new stat would be bad. Any ideas...did this happen to any one else that put these in? Thanks for any advise in advance.

1998 was the only year that the gauge gave an actual reading. youll need a scan tool on 99 and up cars to get the actual reading. if it goes over 210 then the gauge will actually rise. its more like an idiot light.

I wouldn't worry to much about the guage. Did you reprogram the fans to come on earlier?

I have a 160 in my car and fans set at 184/175 & 194/185 - gauge still reads just under 210.

my fans come on at 180 and the second comes on at 190. I recently experienced the car needing to use the cooling fans in bumper to bumper traffic 95+ degree temps. Temp never got above 195*'s If that had happened when she was stock the temps would be around 240. Your car shouldn't be running that hot with a 160 .

Alright folks, calm down, there's nothing to worry about! Just because your thermostat is now opening at 160 degrees instead of 190 or whatever, doesn't mean the coolant can't get to 212! Did you have the PCM programmed to turn the fans on earlier? That will also help your AVERAGE coolant temperature.

Google how a thermostat works/functions. It doesn't control the max temp your coolant reaches!!!! Some cars, with certain mods, tuning, weather, etc can run below 200 degrees on average....but rest assured, they can also reach the same 212 degrees!!!

c5 gauges probably work. the fbodies only worked in 1998. the fbody gauge always hovers around 210, unless its overheating.

let's put it this way... i installed a 160 t-stat, had my fans tuned, installed a big *** B-Cool Radiator, and added some water wetter....

after all that mine still reads around 210 as well... but with EFI LiveScan it read no hotter than 180

So to me, it seems to be a temp sensor issue...

My f#$k gauge didn't work when my car was overheating because I had blown head gasket. Luckily I went to get dyno #'s w/ the y-band because I would've never figure my car was overheating, because it was still at 210. Still pulled 355rwhp w/ a 4k stall and 12-bolt rear with my old setup. oh yeah it was unlocked
