Reverse-split head/cam combo advise please
Hey I know there are a million of these threads but trying to search and piece together info on a couple of specific combos is proving to be a huge headache. First, I already have a ls6 intake, pacesetter lt's, true dual 2.5" exhaust w/ h-pipe, and 4.11 rear end. It is a A4 car and I will probably get a 4000? stall at the same time as heads + cam. I am pretty much set on getting patriot stage II ls6 heads w/ 2.055 intake 1.57 exhaust valves, 59cc chambers. I have been reading alot lately about reverse split cams, and I like the idea of making more torque under the curve. I don't really care about peak hp because I don't take the car to the track enough to really need the high rpm hp. Anyway I know stock heads benefit from a reverse split cam, how about cnc'd ls6 heads? I was thinking a tr236/230 or tr230/224. What kind of difference would I see between these two? How about the idle? I would like a mean choppy idle. Would I be better off with a traditional split cam with theses heads? Also I would like to mill the heads, but how much can I take off without having to get shorter pushrods and/or flycut the pistons? Any help or pointers here would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Reverse split cams are great cams and make awesome power. TR230/224 is plenty and has great drivability. I believe it is ground on 111lsa. It will have a rowdy idle. 4000 stall is more for the track than it is for street. What are your plans for the car? If it is a DD then I would say 2800 stall. Stage II patriots do not need to be milled anymore. If you mill a head too much, valve shrouding becomes an issue. If you are looking for a bump in compression, try a thinner headgasket. Cometic .040 gasket would work well with your combo. Also, you could use a drop in rearend ratio. With a good tq convertor you wont need alot of rearend gear.

The TR230 is a great candidate for what you have in mind as well as MTI X1 230/227.
If mostly street then VIG 3200 or SS3600 yank would be plenty with any gears.
But why run 4.11s for street?

The only reason I have the 4.11 is because they were given to me. I don't see myself buying new ones to lower the ratio now. I will definatly look at some smaller convertors. I remember reading somewhere that a h/c car should run a 4000, but that must be mainly for the track. Do you think the TR236/230 would be too much?
