Default think i bent a pushrod:( keep driving it?!

i missed third gear yesterday and over revved the ***** out of my car, now it has a clicking sound at idle, like a stuck lifter or something, sounds kind of like mild piston slap that doesn't go away when it warms up, thinking a slightly bent a pushrod. problem is, its my daily driver and gets me to work. still drives strong, and idles decent, althought he car has always idled a bit rougher than i would expect a stock car to idle (maybe stock plugs + 50 shot and stock plug wires with 34K miles ?)

wondering how bad it is to keep driving it till i can get it fixed? will i end up ruining something else if that is actually what happened? car is basically stock and has 34K miles on it btw.

I remember when I missed 4th and went into 2nd. I bent a push rod and it was about 15 degrees shy of being L shaped. There is a picture in one of my previous posts. Get it fixed.

how the hell does a pushrod bend like that? I haven't ever taken mine out nor am I any sort of great mechanic... but from the pictures i've seen of where the pushrods are located, it seems it's just s straight pole that goes into a straight hole... where could the rod actually bend to when it's inside that straight hole? i'm confused LOL

you DONT want to drive it like that.

i know it costs more, but if you must, have someone overnight you a set of pushrods... running the engine with them bent, will make them bend more, and possibly break in there. maybe screw a lifter up.. etc..

i know it sucks, but its not worth chancing.. its a sub $100 part...

Keep driving it if you want to **** the motor up. Just wait until the pushrod breaks, or making the hole that it goes in bigger sending metal shaving into your oil...

Please, pull the valve covers, unbolt the rockers, and check the pushrods before something bad happens.

thanks guys! i love this board...

one more quick qeustion then: if i'm going to send it to a shop to tear into it, i figure might as well get the cam/valve springs done too,

what i'm wondering is my car still has stock headers and Y pipe and i'm wondering if a moderately aggressive daily driveable/street cam (thinking something 65-75% aggressive as a magic stick) will cause any problems for the car and still be fun to drive till i can get the headers on there and everything?

IF you are sure you'll NEVER miss a gear again, go with hardened pushrods.

It's better to bend a pushrod then a valve, as was mentioned earlier.

I swapped an entire set of pushrods in 2 hours. That includes the time spent removing the coil packs (98), and re-assembling everything. I had three that were bent just as bad as the one shown.

Quick Reply: think i bent a pushrod:( keep driving it?!
