Tinting Tail Lights Question
#5
We just reduce the hell out of reg black paint and just scuff the lights, spray them and then clear. See if any body shop will do it for you. I think it looks better than the VHT outcome.

i dont want mine as much as yours BIG_MIKE, i just want a little bit of tint, so the red still shows, just darkened a bit. my cousin knows a guy that will do it for $20, hes not clearing them out at all, just using black car paint. im scared, cause this car is my baby, so just makin sure this can be done with this kind of paint. do you spray the inside of the light or the outside?

wouldn't it be just as dark as some GTS covers? or would it be darker with the VHT, cause I was possibly going to do the VHT, but I don't want to completely ruin the ability to see at night

I have a friend who used VHT Nightshades on his '06 Subaru STI. I helped him do it this past weekend. We painted his fog lights, headlights, and his taillights. I personaly wouldn't do the headlights. His headlights came out good, it's just that the brightness of the headlight isn't as good as it was before. I'm even thinking about ordering a can for myself so I could tint my taillights and my third brake light, maybe even the side lights on the quarter panel to my '96 T/A. It's either I tint my taillights or go with the '98+ T/A honeycomb taillights.

You can make the Nightshades look just as good as ANY other paint. 100% Gaurenteed. All good paint job comes down to good prep & solid painting procedures. True the Nightshades will be not as glossy without clear, but you'll want to clear them anyway to keep wax from leaving it's mark & so you can just hit the entire back panel with the buffer.
I'd rather use a product made for tinting tail lights then reduced paint that isn't designed to let the light back out after you paint over it. My tails are just as bright at night as they were before & during the day my brake lights can be seen easily. Same goes for all my sidemarkers.
It's been over a year & my car sits out in the elements every day & is driven over 50 miles a day, so it's not a covered garage queen. The VHT has withstood the elements & not faded at all. Why go thru all the trouble of professionally sprayin on reduced black paint when you can remove your tails & do the VHT/Clear in your garage in a weekend??

Listen bigmike I don't know if you have stock in VHT or what but I still disagree PPG in a spray gun > rattle can. I stated my opinions and experiences im not trying to write a persuasive essay here. So now I am going to quit whoring the thread. Have a nice day.
