Default Question about harmonic balancer?

I'm installing a new crate 305 in my 87 pickup. My question is the harmonic balancer looks like it had been removed before and has some marks where they hit it to get it on. What do I need to do to inspect the balancer and make shure its going to be fine?

Personally, if I suspected any issues with the balancer, I would replace it. Hammers are bad.

Agreed, they're cheap enough to replace if some dummy before you hammered it on.
Professional Products makes great harmonic balancers for ~$60, and they've got timing marks up to 60*. I've got one on my externally balanced 383, great piece. Pioneer also makes good inexpensive balancers.
