Power Steering Pump Removal/Install
This looks like it can be done from the top only. is this true? I want to make sure so that I can just do it in my friends garage without a lift, and not have to bring it to work. and is it easy? Ive never done power steering before.
The front main seal went on my pump. pissed ATF everywhere

yeah i bought an entire kit w/ lines and a reservoir and pump n pulley and was dumb and disconnected all the lines... i've spent 4 hours alone on trying to get one line connected so my suggestion is leave the lines that are there in place if you even have new lines cuz it will save you mass time

I did my pump in under 2 hours. Only bitch part was getting the bottom (feed) line disconnected and connected. ****** old pump PISSED PS fluid EVERYWHERE! i had fun cleaning it up. res was dry when i disconnected old pump.
New pump is in, used a quart of PS \fluid... bled it, its great! yay for power steering. no more whining/crappy steering

I'm reviving this from the dead. Does anyone have a link to removal and install of a power steering pump for a LT1? I'm trying to figure out how you can remove the pump without getting fluid all over the place. I also want to know the best method for purging all the old fluid out of the system and refilling with new synthetic PS fluid.

A crowsfoot socket makes loosening/tightening the nut on the hard line. IIRC, it's a 16 MM hex.
To purge the system, get the front wheels off the ground and suck as much old fluid out as you can, top it off, start the car and turn the steering wheel lock-to-lock 2-3 times, shut the car off, suck the fluid out, top it off with fresh fliud, start the car, turn the wheel, etc....

Thanks, I know about the turkey baster thing to pull fluid from the power steering reservoir. Also, thanks for the tip on the 16mm crow's foot for disconnecting the hard line. My biggest concern is trying to avoid a huge mess to clean.
