Default 98 LS1 rear cover ?

can i use an 99+ rear cover gasket on a 98 LS1 motor ? i know they're different, but enough to have to use the 98 gasket ? thanx

I've used my 98 cover on the newer blocks with no problems. The 98 is actually a heavier made cover if you ask me.

other way around, have 98 block and cover, want to know if i can use the 99+ gasket...thanx for the reply

i don't see why not. i have a 98 tore down at the moment and called myself looking it over pretty good and didn't see any reason why u couldn't swap back and forth.

did the original gasket have 2 separate holes or 1 long one ?

Why not run down to the local deal and ask to compare both ?

Can you modify the gasket ?

I would not modify the gasket. They are cheap enough, so get the correct one.
