Default base performance tune on stock car?

what did/do you guys use on your basically stock car in terms of LS1 edit tuning? i may have convinced my dad to halves with me on LS1 edit and a-tap but he doesnt want to mess around with it and maybe screw the car up. i know about reflashing the pcm but he doesnt want to have to do that. so does anyone have some advice for a nice tune on a stock ls1? his is a 5.3 and mines a 5.7.

If I was tuning a stock car, the first thing I would do is pull some fuel, maybe 2 or 3% to start, from the PE vs RPM table (after first verifying what the O2 sensors are reading); it seems that these cars run rich from the factory. I would lower the fan temps. I would delete CAGS. I would zero-out the three torque management tables, and set the maximum torque @ 500 lb/ft. I would reset the top speed limiter.

I wouldn't mess with timing until I had my a/f where I want it. First things first.

i know the theoretical perfect is 14.7-1 which is where ALL the fuel and ALL the air will be burned the problem with that is you are so close to detonating that any unfavorable weather or whateve will cause you to go lean. im wondering about a fairly safe tune

You don't want to run stoich (14.7:1) at WOT, that's only safe at part throttle. For WOT, shoot for 12.5 to 13.1; 12.8 is popular. This will be a mV range of .875 to .910 on the O2s.

Just based on what my WS6 was set from the factory of 13:1, I would say that was pretty good. Its amazing what gm changed on the WS6 compared to the regular cars. They also had the torque converter locked during shifts when the regular cars did not, plua a host of other changes. This is based on a in-car wideband, so on a dynojet probably aim for around 12.5:1 since they dont fully load the car up. If its a mustang dyno then it should be pretty close at 13:1.
