First time at the Track with the TA (results)
Hey guys! I just bought a 2000 TA WS6-A4 2 weeks ago. She has 29K on her now. I took it to the track for the first time and I was disappointed. I ran two runs against my friends 98 vette-A4-his mods are: Vararam Air-he has stock everything else, and street tires. We took off and my reaction time was better than his: My reaction times-.52, .56 and .32--His-.56, .69. We take off about the same and then it seems like my car levels off and has no more to give around 60-70mph and he flys by me. My last run I waited to feel it level off and then shifted it manually into 2cd and then to 3rd watching the revs-that was my last run with a best of 13.3. We are hitting the same mph at the end but the big difference is in the 1/8 and 1000. For example my 13.5 run, reaction time was .54, 1/8-8.86 1000-11.4 His run--.691, 1/8-8.44, 1000-10.93. I know I am new to the car and need to learn how to drive it but I was expecting better times and more of a pull. Here are the list of mods on the car-I am just listing all of them:
Removed the screen on the Maf
Kooks Stainless Steel headers, y pipes/cats,
corsa stainless steel catback system,
K&N FIPK kit (which I think is limiting my air)
She has 18" CCW wheels
BMR- Front sway bar- Red
BMR- Rear sway bar Red
BMR- Front A-Arms/upper and lower Red
BMR- Tubular control arms Red
BMR- Pan hard Rod bar Red
MOOG- Springs Red
KYB AGX sport adjustable shocks
Full race weight is 3788 lbs.
The temp was about 60-64 all night, I had a little less than 1/2 tank of gas, and ran the rear tires at 30 psi.
As a side note: My 1999 Jaguar XJR ran a best of 13.3 and pulled harder than the TA-but it was supercharged, and weighed in at 3800 lbs.
I am thinking I need to ditch that sh*tty K&N FIPK, and get a tune from wait4meperformace. What you think?? Thanks.

1. those wheels probably aren't helping you
2.vette is a lot lighter
3. Your putting down roughly(by roughly, weight and aero make a diff) the same power to weight ratio since your trapping the same.
4. k&n should not be limiting you at all, all you have is that and a full exhaust
5. mail order tunes(which im assuming that is) are horrible because each and every car is different. Get a proper dyno tune.
6. tires will help on your launch. it seems that your launch is shitty and your making it up on the top end from the extra power.
7. car probably feels slower because maybe it has 2.73s in it. 2.73s + 18s=sluggish.
8. reaction time should have no bearing on your actual time in test in tune drag racing. The e.t. time does not start till you break the beams.

1. those wheels probably aren't helping you-I want to get 17" wheels and sell these, they look nice tho.
2.vette is a lot lighter-He weighed in at 300 lbs less than me.
4. k&n should not be limiting you at all, all you have is that and a full exhaust-thought headers were supposed to help??
5. mail order tunes(which im assuming that is) are horrible because each and every car is different. Get a proper dyno tune. True on that, heard his tunes were good and recommended on this board.
6. tires will help on your launch. it seems that your launch is shitty and your making it up on the top end from the extra power- I power brake it rev to about 2-2500 and then take off, did't spin the tires that much.
7. car probably feels slower because maybe it has 2.73s in it. 2.73s + 18s=sluggish--yeah 18s are big, not my choice, but were on there when I bought it.
Any thoughts on why my car levels off at 60-70mph? Thanks.

Reaction times are not important. You could sit at the green light for 5 seconds and still run a 13. The 2 most important numbers I think are the 60ft and trap speed. The trap speed gives you an idea about the power you car is making and the 60 ft sets the tone for the whole run. The k&n is definitely not holding you back but if you prefer the traditional lid style intake then go for it, doesn't really matter. What were your trap speeds?

headers do help, but my point was that the k&n is not what is holding you back. Why spend money on something that won't help?
what was your 60ft, trap and e.t.?
what was his?
what rear gear do you have, 2.73 or 3.23?

What was your trap speed vs his trap speed? Also the 1st thing you should do to the car is put a 3000 stall or higher in it. This will help wake up that auto. Gears are good but stall is better. Im not sure if vettes came with slightly higher stall converters than the fbodys or not.

Only reason I mentioned the K&N because it is prob pulling hot from the engine the way it is setup. As for track results here they are: This was my fastest run:
60'-2.070
1/8th-8.718-MPH-83.04
1000-11.236
1/4-13.351
MPH-106.25
His trap speed is 106.XX ( I left the other times slips at work)
This is a real WS6 not a clone-how can I find out my gear ratio/sticker/label somwhere?
Thanks guys. Now she does have Kooks headers, and it is throwing a code for the O2 sensors, running rich maybe? Eats alot of gas, thinking maybe more than it should.

SES light is on, I just keep erasing the code, and of course it is going to come back, a tune is def. on my list.
This is my first thread, don't believe in "whats it gonna run threads" rather do the real deal.
I was just hoping to beat my friends vette, I beat him once in the Jag XJR, but he has a bad run..
Also posted this because of the car not pulling too hard in the 60-70 mph, manually shifting the trans gave me a better time, but not sure it was all that, could be my launch was better.
502ls1-how do you like your tune?
Thanks guys.

The light is most likely on because you don't have rear 02 sensors. It may have the other emission stuff removed also, AIR, EGR that would throw a code. But those codes aren't going to affect your performance, the light is just annoying. If your only mod is headers I wouldn't spend the money on a tune if you are planning on doing anything else to the car soon. My car ran fine with headers and no tune 12.8.
