Default Oil pan sensor, whats it for?

The oil pan sensor wire got broke off at the connector. I have no way to fix it without finding a new connector. What will it do without it? Can I get by without it for a while?
This is the sensor that goes right in the side of the oil pan on the passenger side.

Default

That's the low oil light sensor, if I'm not mistaken all it does is turn on the light on the dash when it reads about 2 quarts low.
