Default First time to the track, help!

Last night was the first time I've had the car at the track..Car is always bogging off the line...car is a m6,viper converted,LME 408,9'', 4:11's.bmr lca,sfc,ta,......launching between 5500-6000 rpm's....I'm shifting at 6800 rpm's....

This is a 1000' track....consistantly running 9.4 with 1.6 60'..1/8 was 7.0 96mph with 1000' @ 109

I'm running 28x10.5 stiff 50's on 15x10 drag lites...Should I run a taller gear? Say a 4.30 or 4.56?...I'm going to Memphis Tuesday to try a 1/4 track.

I am not spraying....these times are on motor...trying to run 10's on motor in 1'4...I forgot to mention that with me in the car it weighs about 4000 lbs...Nothing has been removed...I'm 6'5'' 250lb...Car has 2 12's with box in it while I made these runs...Car feels like it has a lot more in it,,,508rwhp 491rwtq on a Mustang 1750.

I forgot to mention that I changed my exhaust from true duels w/x-pipe w/borla xr1's to true duels minus the x-pipe with borla xr1's...This may be the cause of it bogging off the line...Losing my torque from doqn low?...I'm going back to my old exhaust set up...

All advice appreciated.....

got your PM so here is my input.

lighten that car. I've never understood when folks want to run a number and have 10 tons of stereo **** in a car, whats more important to you, ET or heavy bass?

why are you running stiffs? I'm not super well versed on that, but when my car was an M6 n/a, i went 11.0 @ 124 all day long on 1.50 sixty foots on regular sidewall 28's. i mean i can see the theory, M6 hits the tires hard but I would have started with regular sidewalls first and then gone to stiffs if you felt the car needed it.

need more gear. a car that heavy with a 28" tire on it is not going to perform with that gear. either that or you need to spray it. unfortunately with a M6 when it comes to gearing you get two choices..optimize the car for n/a or spray. you want it to run hard on motor you need the 4.56, but then you probably won't make it through the traps on the gun, have to shift to 5th which won't accomplish much. or you can leave the 4.11 and it'll go like hell on the hose, but you'll have your current issue on motor, won't get that heavy *** car going.

as for bogging..not enough launch RPM with that gear and tire, that's most likely the bog. you're trying to move a 4K pound car at 5-6k rpm with a small gear and a big tire with no nitrous. not gonna happen.

yes, i would use an X pipe as opposed to no x pipe.

what tq arm are you running? not a trans mounted i hope.

lastly. shift that car where it needs to be shifted. a 408 at 6800 rpms is like a dick with no *****.

oh, forgot to say for n/a vs spray you can always get another set of rims and run a smaller tire on motor. 4.11 gear and a 26-27" tire would work nice. the 28" is just too much for that gear without the hose.

I appreciate all the info....Yes I do need to lose the stero stuff...I drive the car about 250 miles a week.,,,I run the car n/a...but it is built for a 400 shot. I'm trying to get all I can out of the motor first...My next plans are going back to the x-pipe,springs and shocks, upper n lower ca, rear drag bar, lose the front bar and see where it is....After that, I'll et the hose to it...

The stiff 28's were what almost everyone was running with similar set ups...Gotta live and learn I guess.

Curious where I should shift it at? I'm at 6800...running jesel 1.8 cam is 630/630 on lift...Builder said it will safely spin to 7k....Peak power on dyno is around 6500....More insight is needed..

I don't want this to be a drag car....Just trying to get high 10's out of a daily driver...I think I'm close...just need to work on the suspension a little more, take out the subs, and work on the 60 times..

Going to Memphis tommorrow...will post up times..
