From race gas to Alcohol injection
Just wondering if anyone has went to an alcohol system. What does it take? How is tunning? What are the pros and cons?
I know that you might have to anodize you fuel tank and that you might need bigger injectors because of the burning rate of alcohol. Can anyone else give some input, I have been thinking about going this route. I know the gainns as far as power are nice!

Alcohol makes a ton of torque and on engines with in-efficient cylinder heads, it helps more. On the more exotic combinations, it can actually hurt horsepower. I know of a 572 Raptor headed BBC that lost 30hp going to a hat over two carburetors. I don't know how it would respond on a LS1 though.

It takes pretty much a new fuel system front to back (alky will eat up the seals). Burns roughly twice as much as regular fuel. Engine runs cooler Like all things if your motor needs it it will like it, if it doesnt need it it will hate it.
Whats the cost of Alky these days?
There is one guy on here with a carbed Alky LS1, the tosto brothers racing guy.

he has a SBC alcohol 427, not a ls1.
If you go to an alcohol setup you will need bigger injectors an a really good fuel pump.
your motor also has to be built for alcohol, you need different ring gaps because the alcohol will wash down the cylinders and contaminate the oil.
Lots of compression and alcohol will work wonders together.

How about running race gas throught the car right after using the alcohol, just to relube the seals. I've heard of some people doing this. I believe alcohol is half the price of most race gas, but burns at twice the rate.

Around the Sandiego Area
VP M1 is about $5/gallon
VP M3 is About $9/gallon
Ethanol is close $12/gallon at home depot or about $8 gallon in 55gallon drum from a chem supply store.
They sell a topend lube that you can mix into the alcohol. In most casses you are better of running leaded gas than alcohol.
