I have been to a few shops here in phoenix which are amp and lopers. My friend has a 4.6l GT and he wants a stall. I have always thought that the stall speed of a converter needes to be 500 rpms less than your maximum torque. his torque peaks at ~4000 rpms. Therfore 3500 and around would be suitable. They recommed anything between 2000-2800. I figure that is way to low to get really anything out of your car from a dig.

These performance shops shun me for having a 4000 stall saying my car doesnt make enough power for the stall, it doesnt actually stall at 4000, and even with a tranny cooler on my 4l60e, it is toast.

Any thoughts or opinions about what stall speed the GT should get? Also, any thoughts on my 4k stall that i put on?

Thats just old fashion thinking. A lot of the converter manufactures nowadays make very efficient stalls, so the high stall speed isn't a problem anymore. back in the day a really high stall would be very inefficient, requiring a super high powered motor to compensate.

The definition of a street car are very very different from what is used to be. Do research and talk to people with experience with newer cars. If your car is close to stock, then it is making the kind of power the big block cars were making in the 60's and your doing it on less octane.

3500 should be great for your friend.
