Is there any way to tell the LS1 from the LS6 while still installed on the car? I have a 2000 TransAm that was built very late in 2000. The build date of the car was 6/16/2000.

as stated ls1 intakes have a egr valve right before the tb (and egr pump on the cyllinder head)
also the coolant tube on a ls1 is different and the intake has a bigger space under it to facilitate the 2 coolant tubes (ls6's have only 1 up front)
keep n mind the vally cover under the intake is also different many change this out at the same time to imporve the pcv system
finally a ls6 intake is a bit bigger as in the dunners arnt so flat (mor curve to it) but less their syde by side its hard to tell

the easiest ways to tell are the coolant lines, and the part number on the intake...

is it true some late 2000 cars can have the ls1 intake and the smaller cam, because i know they used the smaller cam in 2001 and 2002 but they also installed the LS6 intake

2000's had egr and the ls1 intake. there is a line that goes in right after the throttle body on the ls1 intakes, that hole is not there with the ls6 intakes. just changed my intake to an ls6, makes 17rwhp and is a great upgrade. on mine i just smashed the coolant lines but you are supposed to remove them. be careful when installing because its easy to crack your Oil pressure guage (which i did). with my ls1 intake my fastest run was 13.55 and with the ls6 my fastest was 12.75, maybe i learned the track but alot came from the intake

The runners have a noticeable hump on the LS6. On the LS1, when looking across the runners it's a lot flatter.
Here is a side by side photo:

It's better if you can get down lower to look at the intake. You can see in that photo best by looking at the very back runner.
Looking at the LS1 intake, the high spot on the back runner is a little higher than the low spot on the runner in front of it. On an LS6 intake, that high spot on a runner is noticeably higher compared to the low spot of a runner next to it.
