427 + D1 = Hot headers
We built a 427 LSX 2008 RC silverado (cheyenne down here)..
D1 pushing 12 pounds...
The thing is that after a hard wot, not even a full track pass, just a hard wot on the street, we open the hood and the headers are flaming red...
Is this "normal" or should we look into other brand/type/or material for the headers?
Thanks for any input..
edit: headers are edelbrock

Are those stainless??? If not then I would try to wrap them to see if that helps... I personally would go with some QTP or something equivalent... How hard are you pushing that blower?? I'm thinking of going with a LSX block 427 but was wondering if I'd even be able to strap the D1 onto it...

Doublecheck the timing. If it's seriously retarded, the headers will glow due to the final combustion taking place in the headers instead of the chamber where it belongs. Worst case it will burn through your headers. Remember that the timing can be retarded via the knock sensor and knock retard, so check that too.

The guy that tunes our cars has HPT and a LM1.. i have not talked to him yet.
Im going to check the exact model of the headers, do some research on them and have a chat with the tuner..

Headers were 1 3/4... never noticed that when installing (such a rush to finish it)..
We are switching to custom 2".. they started today.. lets see what hapens.. just saw some AF logs and truck is not lean.. if any, it is still a bit rich.. timing is low, but not that low..
