Default VHT'd tails, runs in clear coat, how to fix this?

Ok I just VHT'd my tails and I got runs in the clear coat pretty bad. What can I do to get them out? Are there several different things I could use. I was told you use steel wool, but I don't want to use sandpaper, I'm afraid I'll fk that up.

2000 will get rid of most of the scratches but then you will have to polish with with some fine cut gm polish, apply it just like you would a wax.

i had to go to an automotive paint shop to find higher grit, see if there is a shop called finish masters near your house, they have everything.

yea well everywhere i read on how to do it, most people used clear coat for a nice shiny look...im just curious on how they got theirs so shiny and runless.

i'm gonna use the 1500 i already got and find some 2000 like u guys said earlier and see what rubbing compound i can find.

I put at least 10+ coats of clear coat on...used 600 grit to get the worst runs out, 1500, 2000 and then i used rubbing compound, polishing compound, wax. Now I'm finished and they look good enough for me...wow my arm is tired.

Sorry no camera, i'll try and find someone with one. They look good in the day, but I should of went a bit darker. They look badass at night though. Just went and tried them out and I got a few bulbs out...damn...but they look great at night.

I'll get pics

Make sure your not "dusting" with the clear. You are going to need to be close to the tails, I find that being about 6" away usually works. Move smoothly from one side all the way to the other. Quick enough not to run but slow to give an even coat. Release the spray nozzle after each pass and on the return pass overlap the previous by half.

This will "run the shine" and leave no dull spots. I put 3 coats of clear on all the tails I've done, followed by a good polish and they look better than new!

Quick Reply: VHT'd tails, runs in clear coat, how to fix this?
