Default How much can a LT1 T56 handle?

I have a T56 in my 95 Z28 that is getting jacked to go in my 89 RS, i heard they are not that great on slicks at the track in stock form, but others say 450 HP or so is no problem. What is the deal? I also herd that rebuilding it is not worth it unless you go with the expensive viper output shaft and what not. True or False?

Thanks,
Zane

450hp is no sweat. If your clutch is releasing properly and you're driving properly, a stock trans. will be fine but a refresh of the trans, including the synchro linings is a very good idea.

The output shaft... unless you're launching hard on slicks, you're not likely to snap it. If the strip is what you're all about, then go ahead and spend the money.

450-500 is a pretty safe number at the weight your car is .

That is what i thought, but somone mentioned he was told the output shaft had to upgraded even if you were going to see the track here and there. Well, that eases my concern, i should have my car down to 3350 with me in it hopefully.

Can you use a pressure plate from any clutch kit with any clutch? I have a guy with a plate from centerforce, it is a dual friction kit, he said i might wanna replace the clutch disc with another, any for a LT1 will work with the p plate right?

should be good for 450-550ft lbs. they are rated more than the LS t56 because they were hencho en mexico.

you can use any disc for the CF plate, but i wouldnt re use a plate that i had no clue about being abused.
