See Pictures. Which tire is WIDER?
I wanted to ask a question and I'm sorry if it might sound a little stupid or something, but isn't a 295 tire should be WIDER than 285??!! If so please read this and help me out with your opinion.
I purchased a set of tires on ebay that are 295/45/ZR18 (The set on the right). Now, look at the pictures I attached here, the first one (Left) is a 285/30/ZR18 and the second one on the right is a 295/45/ZR18 which are the ones that I bought.
After buying the tires I somehow noticed that he's selling item # 200185863732 on ebay now. The 285 looks WIDER for some reason, the pictures both are taken almost the same but even if they are not, the 285 looks WIDER to me. It's either this is true that these 285s are wider and I simply don't know why!! (thought that when numbers go up tires should be wider) or if you have a different explanation I would greatly appreciate it.
Pictures were taken from the same angle as u can see, maybe the one on the left is a little closer but still u can see that they are really wider , and the seller indicated that each listing has it's own individual pictures and not stock pictures that they use for each listing. I'm CONFUSED, please help.
Thanks a lot

Kage , hehehe, you're helping a lot, but not helping enough , I thought LIKE DUSTINZ28 here said "the bigger the first number the wider the tire, so yes the 295s should be wider" , so am I wrong?

The first number is the width of the tire in mms. the second number is the height of the sidewall in a percentage of the width of the tire, the last number is the diameter of the wheel its made for.
For example (just an example not a real tire) 100/30/15
Its 100 mm wide
30% of 100mm is 30mm so the sidewall is 30mm tiall and it goes on a 15" wheel
But like stated earlier different brands will vary.
The BFG KD 315/35/17 is much wider than the Sumitomo HTR Z 315/35/17
