Stock MAF or SLP MAF?
I stupidly ported my stock MAF when I first got my car. Anyways I am tuning my car with LS1 edit now and I am trying to decide if I should go back to a stock MAF or get a slp 85mm MAF. Money is not the issue, I just want the one that will allow me to tune my car more easily. If the difficulty in tuning would be the same which ever way I went I would go with the SLP. From what I understand the SLP is specifically calibrated for an LS1, correct me if I'm wrong. Also if the stock one would somehow be able to make more power I would stay with it. I just need some input.

Stock MAF...I dynoed before and after installing the 85mm MAF - zero extra power. I've heard the computer tunes it out by adjusting all sorts of things to compensate for the adjustments the 85mm MAF is making. The 75mm supposedly flows enough to not hold up a 600 hp motor. Not sure the exact numbers?
And the tables in the computer are not set up to handle the 85mm MAF, and I don't think they are editable.

Re: Stock MAF or SLP MAF?
I saw a stock camaro dyno 11rwhp less with the slp maf. After asking everyone at the dyno if they wanted to purchase the maf, when everyone got done laughing, he threw it in the trash.

Took my GMS MAF off and put the stock one back on before the tune and numbers that are in my sig. Stock works great! Oh, wait, you ported yours and you're worried if this will alter your readings anyways. Good question. Any MAF experts out there?

Well after hearing what you guys have had to say and from some of the stuff I have read in different magazines, I think I will go ahead and go back to a stock MAF w/screen.

99blackbird, question, did you put on the 85mm maf right before your dyno run, or very soon before??
wondering if you did, then the fuel trims wouldn't have readjusted to the big maf and probably would have given more power, right?

Hydro,
The SLP maf was on the car for a couple of weeks. The computer had plently of time to learn it etc. While this wasn't back to back on the dyno on the same day, the weather was very similar based on temp and baro pressure. It was at the same dyno for both tests.
One of these days I'll go back to the dyno and swap the stock maf back in and see what happens.

Re: Stock MAF or SLP MAF?
SLP has different part numbers for '98-'00
and '01-'02. Behavior of those two types
seems to be different. On my '02 SS the
'01-'02 was mixture-neutral (no change in
LTFTs etc.) and it works very nicely with
a Predator tune (no knock and good WOT A/F).
The '98 - '00 guys seem to have a MAF that
tries to lean them out (like many other
aftermarket MAFs seem designed to do),
from what I've seen posted, and this can be
a problem without further tuning.
I wouldn't take early years' experience as
guidance for late year cars or vice versa
in this case.

jimmyblue,
when you say predator tune, what did you adjust, or was it a custom one?
Now I see that the '98-'00 and '01-'02 MAFs definitely do different things.
