Turbo EGT bung location and temps? Dr Turbo?
Seems to info all over the board on egt bung location and wot temps for a V8 turbo car.
Two inches off the exhaust port seems common.
1600F max seems common at wot.
Comments from anyone that tuned with egt's ?

I mounted the sensor in the passenger side header before the merge ( OFI heagers ), which is probably 6" from #1. My egt's get up there while cruising nice and lean. Probably 1200 or so. Once I go wot, the afr gets fat and egts drop a lot.

that would be ideal, but it would get very expensive and just add more of a mess under the hood, but it would be the best way to monitor it

Widebands do not like excessive temps, and they definately dont like pressure. It affects their output.
EGT probes would ideally be as close to the exhaust valve as possible. But its horrible when an EGT probe breaks pre-turbo

Mine is half way from number 2 exhaust port and my turbo (about 4-5" to either) so it getting a good average of all the cylinders with out cool down time. I cruise at around 850-900 and have hit 1450-1550 while towing up a hill once or twice. I hit about 1460 at the end of the 1/4 running 11.4 AFR and 12 lbs of boost straying -20* wind shield washer fluid for meth though a M10 nozzle.

my probe is about 1.5-2" from the flange on the #7 exhaust runner. what causes high egt's? mine are have been like 1600+ by about the middle of the track. 1000-1200 cruising.

Well, yes, the higher the EGBP, then the more likelyhood of higher EGT's
Its a compromise. You just have to find a balance. But its hard to reduce EGBP. Its easy to add a little more fuel to try and help cool things.
But dont get greedy with advancing timing too. There is an optimum there too.
