LS-6 Block In 01/02's
I received my latest issue of High Performance Pontiac the other day. There is a quick little 3 or 4 paragraph article, towards the front of the issue, that says about 25% of the 02 LS1's actually received an LS6 block and about 10-15% of the o1's!!!!!!!!! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Cool]" src="gr_images/icons/cool.gif" /> Has anyone noticed this? There are supposedly numbers stamped in the driver side rear of the block. It looks like it is right where the head meets the block. I don't remember exactly what the numbers are but if anyone has seen this start spreading the word. If this is true, this may be the reason for the freaks out there that have such awesome stock numbers!!!!!! Just a thought.

The quick and easy wall to tell is to look at the casting. The Z06 is sand cast, and is a darker gray and rougher than the ls1 which is out of a semi-permanent mold.
Here is an article on how the two motors are built, and the differences.

The only diff. is that in the Z06 block, the breather hole between mains is bigger. The casting is a bit thicker. But as for HP. It should be almost the same.
