I'm a program away from 400 RWHP on stock heads using the hot cam. It is oft maligned and overlooked because of the general dislike of it here... I have no idea why... it makes plenty of power. I picked up 20 HP and 17 TQ from it with stock exhaust manifolds in place.

If you're looking for every last drop of horsepower you can extract, no, the hot cam is not a good choice. If you're looking for a reasonably conservative cam that makes good power, sounds great at idle, yet won't put quite the strain on your valvetrain that the MTI/ARE and other cams that lift above .560 will, then the hot cam is for you.

Do a search in the Internal Engine forum. There are those who have great success with it, like me, and there are those who have been disappointed with it because they wanted more power than it can provide. My advice would be to see some cars in person that have several different cams and talk to the owners about how the cams behave.

You will not require programming for the hot cam if you're M6. I've heard of A4's having trouble with it, though I've put several 112 LSA cams in A4 cars for friends and never had a single problem with them. I think it depends on the car and the climate in which it's operated. Here in Florida, 112 LSA cams are fine for both A4 and M6 cars.

The hot cam has given me nothing but joy since I installed it in August of 2001. Don't go by what one person in a forum says, research it for yourself and compare it to the goals you have for your car.

I gained 39 RWHP with the HotCam and PCM tuning <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" /> I went from 331 RWHP / 340 RWTQ before hotcam to 370RWHP / 360 RWTQ after Hotcam+tuning. A great value and perfect for my needs / driving habits. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Cool]" src="gr_images/icons/cool.gif" />

Nothing for Nothing, but there isn't 25 horse power worth of tuning in your hot cam set up...
Everyone has a different opinion and a different application.
But when a professional tells you to stay away from the hot cam, it's for a reason.
I've built more cars than you have ever pipe dreamed about...
The Hot Cam is junk, I'd sooner run a 2002 LS6 cam,for only 189.00 if i was on a budget.
Anyways, this is a specialty vehicle forum, not internals section, so move this thread. <img border="0" alt="[burn out]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_burnout.gif" />

ISpeed is correct. You are making 375/350s and think you will hit 400rwhp with more tuning. I highly doubt it. There are NUMEROUS cams out there making 400+rwhp on stock heads without huge lift. Honestly I would be upset if my car made 350peak torque. I see bolt on cars everyday make the same if not more torque than that. Not bashing, just stating the obvious. Use your own words, dont take just one persons opinion on the internet. BTW, what other cams have you tried?

I have seen the 02 LS6 cam pick up 30+rwhp in otherwise stock applications. stock idle and no tuning , go figure.

Say what you want, but the GM Hotcam is not junk. It is priced well(complete kit), makes quality power(with stock heads), and sounds absolutely unreal. I also like the fact that it is easy on the valvetrain. You can keep your stock pushrods/timing chain while only having to use LS6 springs which won't need to be changed that often. And this cam also works well with the juice too. Since price/reliability are important to me, this is the cam I've decided to go with. I could care-less if there are plenty of other cams that will make more power on stock heads than this one. For what I want out of my car, the GM Hotcam is perfect for me.

Hotcam sound = <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="gr_eek2.gif" /> <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" /> <img border="0" alt="[worship]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_hail.gif" />

BTW, I agree peak torque is low at 357, but 375rwhp with this cam isn't too bad. I'm sure some good custom tuning will net him around 385rwhp(or maybe a little more).

Mike
