VATS is off, fuel pressure is good.. any other possibilities? I dont have a MAP sensor yet, or an alternator hooked up.

That looks just like a VATS problem. Are you certain that it's turned off?

Sounds exactly like VATS kicking in... Mine did it too and I thought it was turned off....

I dont know if the MAP would cause it to not fire longer...but its worth a shot. Stick that on there, double check all your wiring and fittings, make sure you are getting adequate fuel pressure, and try again. If it still does it, build yourself, or buy a cheap VATS bypass... Its a quick and easy way to rule that out. LIke I said...I thought mine was turned off, but ended up building a VATS box before I did anything else, and thats what it was. So I was glad to have not wasted too much time diagnosing.

Without a MAP signal, how would the VE map input be in the equation??

I dont know... I always figured it would fire and run like crap... or not fire at all. Mine did seem to run alitle longer than that when my VATS was acting up... so maybe geezer is right. Grab a MAP (you need one anyway) and stick it on there.

I figured since the VATS is labeled "none" that it would for sure be off.. How would I bypass VATS with a custom wiring harness?

I am trying to find a MAP sensor that is used or something.. I got laid off and can't really afford a 60 dollar MAP sensor from auto zone, along with all the other stuff I still need to buy.

Post in the wanted section man...Im sure someone on here will help you out. Heck I might even have my old MAP....if I can find it, Ill send it to you on the super cheap.

You cant bypass VATS with wiring....unless you have the entire system working. But since you dont, your only two options are to build/buy a vats bypass module, or have it tuned out.

Like I said, I had VATS taken out by the previous owner of my donor car. I watched him do it on HP Tuners, and it looked like it was right. However...my car wouldnt run. Built a bypass box real quick and it fired right up. I cant explain it, no one else has been able to explain it. Oh...and now all of a sudden...I dont need the box. Really weird...

The PCM needs to see a 50hz signal during start up. Thats what you build, a 50 hz generator.

Ide try the MAP first. Ill check tomorrow after work to see if I still have my old one...if you are interested. Cant promise I can find it...but Ill try.

Yeah, my HPTuners says VATS is off..

Ive made two different WTB ads for MAP sensors and nobody seems to have one for like 10 bucks.. everyone wants what auto zone wants..

Ill have to research the VATS box and make one.

I have a thread on here about making a vats bypass box. I has links and pics in it...everything you need to build your own. All you have to do is read it, and know how to solder. All the parts are available at radio shack, and its not very expensive.

As for a MAP...Ill sell you mine IF I FIND IT for 10 bucks shipped. Hows that sound? Its an AC Delco MAP...and it was working fine when I removed it. I rebuilt my Fast 90 and decided to plop a new MAP in for the heck of it.

Im home from work today...sick as a dog. But after lunch I plan to run out for a minute...so Ill take a quick peak where I THINK the sensor is. Hopefully I can find it. If I USPS it to ya, should get to you pretty fast. Where are ya located?

J.

EDIT: Here is my thread on the vats bypass box. Links and all. One suggestion that I dont think is listed in that thread. When you get the IC timer, buy a socket for it too. That way you dont have to worry about overheating the the IC when you solder it. You'll see what I mean when you get to radio shack.

Would it have anything AT ALL to do with the computer being from a 2002 Chevy Silverado? Dont know if they use the same type of security or if there are more measures you must go through.

The VATS bypass ebay box is ordered. Hopefully that and everything else I have been needing will fix it.

You can't use a VATS bypass box on truck computers, they have to be reprogrammed, unless you change the type of anti theft in the PCM to the F-body type.

Can I just do that with HPTuners, and the use the VATS bypass box?

I have the HPTuners stuff sitting right here, how would I change it to the F-Body type?

Ok, that is not F-body vats. Vats will let it fire. Will run anywhere from 3-5 seconds then it will just die. Your motor barely even fires telling me its not your vats. It could have to do with some type of security in the truck ECM. Idk if that ECM is compatible with your motor

I was trying to help him before I know what all he was using for a motor/harness/pcm etc etc. So now Im not sure. But...my car wouldnt ALWAYS run for 3-5 and shut off. It would do exactly what his did as well as run for a few seconds. Im not saying its VATS still...Im starting to think its not as well... Just sayin.

O.P. Good luck man. Hope ya get it figured out.

J.
